Estimate or account price: how to read prices in OptiRide
Without a linked account, OptiRide shows an estimate. With your ride-hailing accounts linked, it shows the prices offered to your accounts, promotions included, refreshed every 30 seconds. Either way, the final price is the one in the partner app when you confirm.
OptiRide offers two ways to compare. Both are useful, but they do not say the same thing. It helps to know which one you are looking at.
No linked account: an estimate
You install the app, enter a trip and get prices. No sign-up, no account to connect.
The prices shown are then estimates. They give a ballpark figure and let you spot which app is likely to be best placed. They do not include anything specific to your account, such as a personal promotion.
This is the right mode to discover the app, or for a quick comparison when a few euros of uncertainty will not change your choice.
With linked accounts: your prices
You can connect your existing ride-hailing accounts from OptiRide. The app then queries each service with your account and shows the price it offers you.
Two consequences:
- Your promotions are deducted. If an app gives you a discount, the price shown includes it.
- Prices refresh every 30 seconds. You are not comparing a snapshot that is several minutes old.
Why a difference is still possible
Ride-hailing apps recalculate their prices all the time. Between the moment OptiRide shows an offer and the moment you confirm the ride in the partner app, a few seconds or minutes go by, and the price can move either way.
The rule is simple: the price that counts is the one the partner app shows when you confirm. Always glance at it before confirming. If the difference with OptiRide surprises you, go back and run the comparison again.
Where your logins go
When you link an account, the login information is saved only on your phone, in the secure storage of the operating system. It is not copied to OptiRide’s servers. If you change phones, you will need to link your accounts again.
Details are in the privacy policy (in French).
Which one to choose
If you take a ride now and then, the estimate is enough to avoid bad surprises. If you ride several times a month, linking your accounts is worth the two minutes it takes: you then compare the prices you will actually pay, promotions included.
